[Guide] NAS Killer 6.0 - DDR4 is finally cheap

FreeNAS hasn’t been a thing for many years, it’s TrueNAS now.

Don’t put your media storage and your pen testing on the same machine. Or at least, I sure wouldn’t.

ECC is a nice-to-have, a media server doesn’t need it. It also almost never goes with a qs capable igpu.

That motherboard is probably really expensive and not worth it. It also isn’t compatible with E5-26xx cpus.

im sorry I mispoke about the freenas., obviously TrueNas. Im trying to get back into this lifestyle. Ill continue to do more research.

and yeahI dont know what motherboard I should be on because Im not sure what CPU I should be on

Ok nevermind, this community clearly out the gate is about beating people down instead of helping….dont worry, ill figure it out @stuffwhy i might not be as smart as you in computers, but Im certain I am in M&A

I’m sorry if my reply was somehow offensive. I was just addressing the points in your post I felt competent to answer.

Hell yeah!

Considering the recommended drive is sold out, has anyone purchased other drives from the same seller on eBay?

I note that all the drives listed are either Segate or HGST (Western Digital). Are they the only manufacturers recommended for NAS builds?

EDIT:

I have been able to order all other parts apart from the drives. I was able to order one drive, but I notice that the sellers on eBay update their listings when new drives are available. Will track over the next few days to score 7 more.
