[Guide] NAS Killer 6.0 - DDR4 is finally cheap

Not going to work out. Requires bifurcation

The ASM1480 chipset for Slot 6 supports bifurcation. Apparently the BIOS does not?

What is a compatible affordable micro ITX motherboard? All of the ones listed are no longer widely available and I can’t find them used…

You should seriously consider not using itx at all.

Is it possible to get refreshed links and pricing for the HDDs from RTG? Pricing for the higher capacity drives seems to be significantly higher now, and I’m guessing an $85 offer for a 12tb drive isn’t going to go far.

Their stock is changing all of the time. Just check them out on eBay

Many thanks to those who provide advice. It is greatly appreciated!

I’m trying for my own build, hampered with Australian pricing and availability. I’m mainly wanting to have a NAS with no real thought to transcoding, though based on other comments I’ve seen my AMD server running proxmox may not be the best. The main aim was to separate storage from server and have backups, media on a raid array. The house is mainly 1Gbit Ethernet though 2.5 may work…

I decided to sort the case and motherboard first given those supply issues. I’ve ordered the ASRock Z370M-ITX motherboard and a Fractal Design Node 304 case. I’ve got four 4tb wd gold drives and a couple of Samsung 1tb ssds (all sata) to start me off. Any gotchas that I should look out for? I figure the psu size is one.

Thanks again to all in the community. I’m enjoying my first ever computer build!

How are folks using the DPS-475CB with standard ATX motherboards? After setting everything up I realized the pinout on the 24-pin connector is non-standard on pins 12 and 23 which are connected to +12v instead of +3.3v and +5v, respectively. Are these pins just unused on some motherboards? I could open it up and run new wires from the standard rails, but that seems… not ideal.

Hello
Is it worth updating uefi for the server in asus prime z390-A

Hey all. Bought out my component list, with prices in Aussie dollars:

Fractal Design Node 304 SFF 19.2L Mini-ITX Case (Black) FD-CA-NODE-304-BL ($174)
1EVGA 500 BR 500W Power Supply, 80PLUS Bronze, Non-Modular, 120mm Fan, 1x EPS, 2x PCI-E, 6x SATA, 3x Molex, DC to DC converter ($74.45, $89.35 delivered)
ASRock Z370M-ITX/ac LGA 1151 Intel Z370 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard (US$153.99, ~$243.50)
INTEL QUAD CORE i3-8100 @ 3.6ghz SOCKET LGA 1151 SR3N5 ($25.00)
Crucial DDR4 RAM 16GB 3200MHz DIMM Memory Desktop RAM CT16G4SFRA32A ($110)
1TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD CT1000P3SSD8 ($98)
Thermalright Assassin X120 Refined SE ARGB CPU Air Cooler Assassin X 120 Refined ($32.00, $37 delivered)

M.2 NVMe SSD NGFF TO PCIE 3.0 x16 x8 x4 Adapter M Key Interface Card Full Speed $9.90
SATA 15pin Hard Disk Power Male to 2 Female Splitter Y 1 to 2 Extension Cable $3.95

Just wondering if I may have made a mistake with the memory? The ASRock and Cucial website say the memory I’ve purchased is not compatible. Have I made a rookie error?

Thanks

Almost 2 years after the post I want to check before getting into building do the RTG discounts still apply and is there any changes to the available Hardware that you would make?
