I was using different cables upstairs first. How would 1 drive work and the other not with the same cable and power? Again interchangeably. I’ll go try it again right now.
There’s a USB adapter inside the drive shell that could also be defective. It’s extremely unlikely that the drive simply writes slower than any other drive. I’ve never, ever seen that happen with a shucked drive outside of the case.
This is why I don’t tell people to speed test the drive in the shell. The only things you should be checking are SMART data and capacity.

Do I need to pay attention to any part numbers when buying these drives to shuck (would likely be WD Elements 8-14tb)? I know there are different versions of these drives. Are they all good to shuck or are there some I should be avoiding?

The Black Friday Best Buy sale on the 14TB Easystore is long dead. Unless I’m missing something, BestBuy’s price is $239.99. Plenty on eBay selling it for that same price or up to a dollar cheaper.

I went today as I was considering another drive and it’s back to $279.99, even logged in.
I know I will def. buy a plex pass. After I’m done putting together my build… These seem like good drives. I want to buy 8, 8TB drives. Though they are not in stock. 
Is that plex pass promo still a thing?
It looks like Best Buy has the easystore drives on sale again. Not sure on all the sizes but the 12TB is at $194.99 right now (under the expected price).
