[Official] Recommended SAS2 HBA (internal & external)

IMO, yes. There’s really no reason to buy them.

I’ve been favoring Adaptec cards anyway, due to their ease of use.

Good to know, thanks!
(I had previously skipped over the Adaptec since 20 W is double some of the LSI cards)

I believe a portion of the Adaptec’s power usage is from the memory cache that can be removed.

Question 1: I currently have 6 SATA drives plugged into my 8i card but now I’m also considering getting 2 SAS drives.

Is there a recommended way of going about doing this? Do I just need to get a 8087 to 4x SAS breakout cable and make do with 4 SATA and 4 SAS drives?

Question 2: Why are 16i cards so much more more expensive than 8i cards? I’m trying to maximize my PCIE 3 x16 slot’s bandwidth and an 8i is using half that at best. I’ve even looked at PCIE splitters but there’s hardly any information on them and trustworthy parts. Any suggestions?

You can use the SFF-8087 to SFF-8482 breakout cables for both SAS and SATA drives, and you can mix and match both types of drives on the same breakout.

TIL and mind blown. I wish I would’ve just bought these instead of SATA breakout cables.
