[Build Complete] - NK4.0 Node 804

Both SAS cables connect my SATA drives to the SAS controller. No reason why I bought different ones other than misunderstanding, trial & error.

The SFF-8482 has a wide connector that incorporates both the power/SATA. When I purchased that cable I thought it would supply power to the drives from the SAS card, but I was wrong. You still need to provide power on the backside of that connector for each drive. I have 2 SSDs attached to the bottom mounts of the NODE 804 case on the motherboard side and this cable is used to connect those drives to the SAS card.

The other SAS cable is routed around to the backside of the case and connects to the shucked drives. Since these drives require the 3.3V mod, and I was unsure if the 8482 cable would work with that mod, I bought another “normal” SAS to SATA cable. I have no issues in length with this cable connecting to the backside of case.

The shucked drives will not power up if 3.3v pin has power. There are a couple ways to get around this. You could put tape over the pin on the drive, mod a cable to remove that wire, or buy this molex adapter. I didn’t want to use tape, I was lazy and didn’t want to mod a cable to remove the 3.3v wire and make it look “pretty”, so I opted for the molex to 5 SATA power splitter. The molex doesn’t send that voltage so to me it was a win-win.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
