I built a small-form server 5 or 7 years ago, figured it’s probably time to upgrade and give myself more space. Would love input on if I can re-use the CPU or should just start from scratch?
Current setup:
Coolermaster Elite 130 (love the case, but I think I need more room for hard drives)
Xeon E3-1245 v3 (upgraded to this since the original build)
Motherboard is ECS H81H3-I, Version 1.0
2 8TB shucked WD drives
Unraid 6.9.2
Main use is plex server
Thinking of upgrading the case to something like the Fractal Node 804 for form factor, I don’t need tons of drives, probably 3 or 4 max, and it’s in a common room so hoping to keep it quiet. Can/should I keep the CPU (and possibly the motherboard)? Seems to be working fine but it’s definitely getting up there in years. Would love any input.
