Recommended Operatiing system for a first time Server Build

I am building my first server base on the Anniversary 2.0 guide. while I am waiting for all the parts to arrive, I started thinking about what operating system to install. My main interests are of a hobbyist nature. My only specific goal at the moment is to stream videos thought my home. But snooping around the internet, I am intrigued with home automation possibilities.

I am looking for a recommendation for an operation system to deploy.

Welcome, I would recommend Unraid.

It makes a great Home NAS / Media server and has a very user friendly UI for managing Docker containers and VMs.

It is an excellent platform for someone starting out with home servers.
