Hi guys, new member here, I’ve been using a Dell 7070 SFF, i7-9700, 16GB, running OMV for a little while but havent really explored much with it other than having a 12TB USB 3.0 external drive plugged in and sharing it over SMB on my LAN. I’d like to upgrade this thing and get into Unraid. I’m curious what your thoughts on with the limited I/O and space on the Dell SFF case. Is it possible to do a decent build on this platform, or should I just scrap it and build something from one of the existing guides in a larger chasis?
- My goals for the system:
- 24TB usable storage, for media, files, folders, sharable on LAN and WAN
- Plex media server
- VM possibility to run some Ubuntu or other services, just to tinker
- Docker, just to tinker, or host some services
- 2.5Gb NIC upgrade?
Looking at the motherboard, I think it has maybe 2 M.2 slots, and 2 SATA ports on the board, plenty of USB 3.0 and USBC on the external IO. It has 1 small PCI slot and 1 large PCI slot on the mobo (sorry i dont know the specific type)
Money isnt really a huge limiting factor, so i’m not opposed from building from the gound up, I just dont want to waste this PC if I cant use its parts.
Thanks for the help, I’ve read thru a few of the posts here and i’m really impressed with this community and the Unraid platform really interests me. It seems more friendly than OMV and some others.
