New server rebooting every 6-7 minutes (Gigabyte GA-7PESH4)

TLDR: Server is rebooting by itself every 6-7 minutes after initial boot regardless of state.

New to the server game. Had everything working but now it’s not.

  • Gigabyte GA-7PESH4 Rev 1.0
  • 8x16GB Samsung PC3-12800R DDR3 1600 ECC Reg Server Memory RAM RDIMM
  • 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2650L SR0H0 1.80GHz Processor
  • Seasonic Prime 600 Titanium SSR-600TL 600W
  • Samsung MUF-32AB/AM FIT Plus 32GB

Got everything going yesterday. Booted to the Unraid drive and configured everything. Left it overnight and everything was fine. Started working on it again today and went to mess with VMs when Unraid said my hardware didn’t support VMs. Shutdown the server properly and went to check my bios settings to make sure that virtualization was enabled. Everything looked right. Toggled the settings off and on again and changed one setting (its name escapes me but I can go into the bios and check if needed) Saved changed and exited. Machine boots into an old Windows drive I had in the machine. BIOS is not longer seeing my unpaid flash drive. Remove it and plug it into my laptop and it says it’s it needs to be repaired. Repaired it and was able to see the contents again. Put it back into the server and booted to it again. Now the server shuts down every 6-7 minutes. I have timed it and that is the approximate amount of time it takes. It does not matter if I am in Unraid, the BIOS, or Windows, memtest or any other screen.

If the server shutdowns in bios then you can rule out alot of possibilities. A bios reboot is going to be faulty hardware. I would check you cpu temps amke sure its not increasing prior to reboot in bios. I would take out all but 1 stick of ram. And then if its still rebooting in BIOS I would swap the psu if you have a spare.

Thankfully it looks like it’s a thermal issue so I might have to invest in some better fans.

Thermal issue for CPU, SB/NB, or NIC controllers?

Looks like CPU, got the suggested fans coming my way to swap out the stock ones. Looks like it’s holding around 53-63C right now depending on the work load, but obviously would want to get that lower.
