New Fat Build - Room to Grow - Feedback Appreciated

Hi, all!

Short-term goal for this machine is to be multifunctional - NAS, handful of VMs, minor game and web hosting. Eventually I plan to separate the NAS into its own unit, but that can wait. I feel I’ve overbuilt this machine for its current purposes, but I wanted room to grow as I find more potential applications I want to pursue.

I’ve included two build options - one for rack mount and one for tower. I’m undecided at this point which path to take, but I’m not too concerned with noise or power consumption. I’m torn between the improved expansion options with the rack mount vs. the compact form and convenience of the tower.

Thanks to those in the Discord who already offered advice on specific components! So glad I found this community before taking on this project.

I’d get a RSV-L4500 instead.

The motherboard you have selected will not fit in either chassis, nor will it fit in a RSV-L4500.
Can you use the X9DRL-iF?

Both good catches, I trusted the case summary too much without checking actual mm dimensions.

After talking with you and a few others on discord, I’m pivoting to recycling my main PC hardware into a server with a little more horsepower. Will find a place to share those plans when I’ve got a rough idea. Thanks!
