Description

This way my first foray into building a server. I’ve built many computers in the past but never worked with server hardware. The most intimidating part of all of this was trying to figure out the compatible parts but this forum/discord/guides provided everything you could possibly want.

One of the few issues I ran into was with a VGA-HDMI cable to my monitor in order to flash the LSI card. I was using an active VGA-HDMI cable but my main monitor didn’t always pickup the signal from it. I borrowed a monitor with vga support from a friend in order to flash it. The other issue was I needed to mod my case (removed some tabs) in order to fit the Rosewill Cage into the 5.25" bays.

I originally built this to be an all in one NAS/Plex server for a few friends but that didn’t last long. I now have a HP290 handling my plex transcoding, so this is just running Radarr, Sonarr, tautulli, deluge, nzbget. I’m sure I’ll find other uses for it soon enough and I just want to keep upgrading things…

Looks great! I have the same case for my NK4.1!

How difficult was it to mod your case for the cage?
My drive counts aren’t up to use the cage yet, but definitely something I will be needing in the future!

Haha, yeah I saw your post and as like, OK, we’re twinning! No it wasn’t too bad, literally just took everything out of the case and took a grinder to the tabs. I also had to grind down the back edges of the cage as well as there was some doubled up material there that wouldn’t allow it to fit. It’s still a very tight fit but there’s nothing locking it in place, just friction. If you don’t need the additional 1 drive, it might just be easier to use 3x single drive 5.25" to 3.5" adapters.
