Work needs: a bit of video editing, light software compiling (~20min a build) are the most processor intensive things I do, but neither are daily occurrences. Play needs: I
I’d also like to try some of these newer games:
Disco Elysium
Elden Ring
Crusader Kings 3
Apex Legends
Doom Eternal
Preferences: 1080p is fine with me, eyes aren’t good enough for 4k .
I’m extremely interested in the “guide setup” from JDM here:
I’m wondering if anyone sees a better value in the above list, now that the new intels are out.
Yeah that guide is both a little bit out of date, and also has things targeted to remote gaming on a file server, which is different than traditional desktop usage.
If you’re buying new and depending on budget, look into a Ryzen 5600 or higher, or a Intel 12th or 13th gen.
You might opt for a more traditional storage setup, like one reasonably large 1tb or 2tb NVMe drive for boot and programs, and then hard drives for bulk storage. (video editing may have special needs)
You’ll only need one GPU. And newer gen 3000 or 6000 series are finally just starting to drop in price
The case you use will matter for space and aesthetics.
