Intel or AMD in 2023?

I’ve an old 3U case with 8 removable SATA HD cages. I’m in the early stages of thinking of what I want to do with it.

Yes, it is going to be a NAS. But really with 2 people in the house it won’t be very busy with that task. I’ll want to either run Docker or Proxmox and consulate a half dozen processes; OPNsense, Pi-Hole, Flame, Vaultwarden, Hugo with it’s web server, and whatever distro I want to play with.

I suspect the system will be idle 80% of the time. So, I guess a little slower, but a power sipping CPU (65W ) would be more appropriate. My question mainly is, in 2023 is there much difference between Intel and AMD for the things I’m looking at doing? This isn’t my gaming rig and it will be headless.

If I go the route of the new AMD Ryzen 7000’s I probably won’t be able to get Intel NICs on the motherboard. That used to be a problem. Is it still? Just add a 10G network card you say? Are there other compatibility concerns?
