Dell PowerEdge T710

Hello all,

I am brand new to here, big fan of the bundle HDD deal. I recently got a free T710 from a friend who was upgrading a client’s server. It currently has a x5660, 24GB DDR3 ECC RAM, and dual 1100W PSUs. I want to turn it into a NAS mainly with some Plex 1080p transcoding (2-3 people MAX). However, The case fans are always on full speed. I have already set to min in the BIOS, and it still sounds like an airbus taking off. I can’t seem to get into the IMPI settings to manually adjust the offset of the fans. I set the IDRAC to static, and I could not connect. I set it to DHCP and same thing. I am stuck at this point and think I should just scrap the whole thing or buy quieter fans (I do not know how to solder FYI).

Has anyone had experience with PowerEdge machines before and can assist?

Thanks all.

Was the network cable plugged into the IPMI network interface or only the standard one?

I only see 4 ethernet jacks at the back of the tower (labeled 1-4). I couldn’t find a separate one for IDRAC/IMPI. Note, I couldn’t set ipv4 to DHCP unless the ethernet cable was in slot 1.

I know the T710 does not have a IDRAC enterprise edition Card installed. I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Assuming there isn’t a separate one, did you check your router to see if it was actually pulling dhcp? Otherwise you’ll be checking bios settings.

Alternatively you can do some things like replace fans.
