I’ve been running PMS for several years on an old desktop that recently crapped out on me using external HDs for storage. I’ve been lurking here a long time thinking that one day I would build my own server/NAS. Well, the time has finally come. After reading alot, I’ve decided that I want to build 2 separate boxes. 1) a rack mounted Unraid NAS with plenty of room to upgrade/expand in the future and 2) a HP S01 transcoding box.
I will probably play around with some other VMs, Dockers, jails what-have-you, but the main purpose for these boxes is to store and serve my media as it expands and act as a personal cloud (probably using something like Nextcloud).
So, here’s my first draft build. I’ve never built my own computer or anything so I could really use your assistance and advice on this. I’m looking for the best bang for my buck, but also have a little room to expand as I go. Let me know if you see anything that doesn’t look right or if you have a better deal I could go with.
Thanks!
