Hey folks, could use a hand.
I’m slowly setting up an HP z440 to take over my home file server needs and am running into an issue with the 78165 I picked up.
When directly connecting a SATA drive via either an SFF 8644 or 8643 to SATA breakout cable, the OS sees the SATA drive just fine. But when I use the same cables to connect a Rosewill Hotswap HDD cage, the OS sees nothing at all.
I’ve been unable to access any kind of settings with the 78165 either through Windows or during boot. Everytime the computer boots for cold, Windows crashes and reboots the computer.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

NP z440 E5-1660v4 64GB RAM Windows 11 24H2 LTSC IoT
Adaptec ASR-78165 (supposed to be in HBA mode from vendor)
Rosewill RSV-SATA-Cage-34 Hard Drive Cage
