Kenwood KA-3500 (upgraded)
For your consideration is a Kenwood KA-3500 integrated amplifier that has been cleaned, refurbished, and had the output transistors upgraded. Following is what was done to this amplifier:
- Removed cover, knobs, and face plate to facilitate cleaning, service, and upgrades.
- Blew out dust and debris and cleaned circuit boards.
- Replaced transistors Q2, Q4 (matched complimentary pair), Q7, Q8, Q17 - Q20, and output transistors Q21 - Q24 on amp board. Modified heat sink to accept TO3PN package transistors which are readily available and have better specs than the outdated XM20 “bat wing” transistors.
- Replaced coupling capacitors on amp board as well as 2 other caps that were out of spec with quality Nichicon replacements.
- Adjusted amplifier idle bias on both channels to spec of 20ma after 15 minute warm up.
- Replaced all capacitors in the audio path on tone and control board with quality Nichicon replacements.
- Replaced a faulty resistor and 24v zener diode in power supply.
- Cleaned and lubricated all pots and switches with DeoxIt.
- Replaced ac power cord as the original had been spliced.
- Fully tested all inputs and outputs and everything works as designed and amplifier sounds
fantastic. - Cleaned face plate, knobs, and metal cover and reinstalled.
I used this amp for several hours after reassembling and it played fine and sounded excellent with no issues noted.
