I’m shopping for a gaming PC in the $1400 range. To fund my purchase, I’m planning to sell a datacenter server I picked up from a friend. As I’ve been researching going rates for the server parts, I’ve realized it seems to be worth well over $1000.
I’m a software guy, not hardware, but I have to wonder: does this make sense? Should I sell this server, or use it as a starting point for my gaming build? I can obviously re-use the HDDs, the case, and the PSU. I think I can put the 2060 Super in that motherboard, though I’d obviously need to find different CPUs.
So should I pursue an all-new gaming PC, or build a Frankenstein-style gaming PC/server monster?
