This will in fact be my first ever PC build. Currently I’m using my laptop as a NAS but want a dedicated machine with a lot more storage. So far I have bought:
Motherboard: Intel DQ77MK - £42
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1260L - £33
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 - £30
SAS HBA: LSI 9210-8i - £20
HDD: 4x Seagate Constellation 3TB - £105
So far I’m struggling to find a decent deal for a case. I ordered a Phanteks Enthoo Pro M for £76 but they’ve come back saying it’s out of stock. I’m weighing up going for a Cooler Master HAF 912 for £85, a Phanteks Eclipse P400S for £75 or the Fractal Design Node 804 for £105 unless anyone has any other suggestions. I lost out any ebay bid for the Fractal Design R6 and now can’t find it for cheaper than £130.
Does the brand of RAM matter too much or can I just buy whatever is cheapest off of Ebay? I’m planning on getting 16GB.
The PSU is an issue as well. The Cooler Master Master Watt 550 semifanless is £80 is that worth it? I’m not too sure what else to go for.
Finally I intend on getting the SanDisk SSD Plus 480GB to install Unraid onto.
How am I doing so far? The PSU and case is what I think I need the most advice on. Thanks!
