[Build Complete] Threadrunner

Intro

As many of you know this build post is long overdue. I completed this particular build back in May 2018; as such, the prices I paid are not reflective of today’s prices.

Part Model Price
Case Phanteks Enthoo Pro TG Full ATX $109.99
MOBO & CPUs COMBO: Supermicro X9DRi-LN4F + Dual E5-2630v1 $285.00
Power Supply CORSAIR CX-M Series CX650M 650W 80 PLUS BRONZE $49.99
Fans ARCTIC Alpine 20 Plus CO CPU Cooler + ARCTIC F12 PWM PST - 120 mm (5 pack) + 200mm fan $79.99
Cables Sata Cable SATA III 6.0 Gbps + 2X 15 Pin SATA to 4 SATA Power Splitter Cable + 8 to Dual 8 Pin EPS 12V + ATX 24 pin extend + Sata 4x power split $52.46
SSD SSD 512gb $109.99
RAM 32GB (8X4GB) DDR3 ECC REG. MEMORY $86.00
UPS CyberPower Sinewave UPS System 1000VA/600W $137.75
Other Arctic MX-4 Thermal Paste + Standoff pads + 1 mil polyimide film (hard drives) + 3.5" hard drive brackets (+3 Drive Slots) + USB + LSI Card $65.16

Total - $976.33

Note, some of the items (like the 3.5" hard drive brackets) were only needed because I modified the case to fit three additional hard drives (6 drives → 9 drives). I didn’t include hard drives in the table but for those wondering mine were 7x shucked 8TB WD Reds. All recent modifications and additions such as graphics cards have not been included.

What I Would Do Differently

I’m very happy with how the build turned out, however, if I could go back in time I would have definitely gone with a 4U rackmount case instead. The Phanteks case is nice but lacks real hard drive room. I’ll likely end up moving everything to a 16-24 bay rackmount case within the year.

Conclusion

Completing this build was extremely rewarding. Special thanks to JDM_WAAAT, ManBear, ALANMAN, and everyone at ServerBuilds.net / Discord for their advice throughout my build.
